Both have open-source roots and commercial editions (Akeneo has since discontinued its free Community Edition) — so the decision is less about "open vs closed" and more about scope and how much you want to build.

- Both are credible open-core options; neither is a universally "better" choice — it depends on scope and internal resources.
How it relates to catalog intelligence
